
You don’t need to become someone else. You need a strategy built for who you already are.
We’re heading towards the 30th of June, and it’s a natural time to reflect on what needs to change. The thing I most want to talk about is the one most of us would rather avoid — burnout.
The core idea
This weekend I needed some rest, so I took myself to Carly Collective here in Perth for a sound bath — gongs, crystal bowls, deep relaxation.
That’s how I reset and step away from business for a while. I share that because, as a business owner, I’ve known the addiction to staying busy, working every hour I had, and yes, burning out.
And you really don’t want to burn out.
We talk a lot these days about self-care and not wanting to burn out, and I think that’s genuinely positive.
But what I want to talk about is preventing it.
Because burnout isn’t random — it’s a symptom of a problem in your business, or a problem in how you’re thinking about your business.
I see a lot of owners who are very much in control.
They can delegate tasks, but they can’t delegate authority.
They struggle to switch off, and they struggle with boundaries — and weak boundaries quietly shape the clients you take on and the team relationships you build.
Burning out, at its heart, is about a lack of systems. It’s about not stopping long enough to work on the business and ask: what system do I need?
What person? What boundary?
So if you’ve already burnt out, rest and recovery genuinely matter — please take them.
But if you want to stay in your business for the long haul, the better question is what foundations you need to put in place so it doesn’t happen again.
So that you can step away, and live the happy, healthy life you actually want.
