The tactic is rarely the real answer. Ask what you, as the leader, need to change — you already know.

I can usually tell where a business is stuck within the first five minutes of talking to the owner. Not because I’m clever — but because, deep down, they already know.

The core idea

If I asked you what your business needs right now to grow to the next stage — to scale to wherever it is you want to go — you’d know the answer. You really would.

Now, your first answer might be a tactic. “I need better marketing.” “I need to run some Facebook ads.” “I need to hire.” But I want you to dig a little deeper than that.

What is it about you, as the leader of your business, that’s keeping you stuck where you are? No judgment — we carry more than enough of that already. But that’s usually the real thing. Where are you holding your business back?

It’s a great question, and one I ask myself often. Because honestly, I’m a master at keeping my own business stuck. Maybe you are too.
